Last season one of the question marks for the Boston Celtics was at the point. Would Rondo and friends be able to hold it together and work well enough with the Big 3. At times Rondo looked very young and that had to be a large reason that Danny Ainge brought in the vetran Sam Cassell (its hard remembering that its Matt Cassel and Sam Cassell). The kid didn't take it as a slap in the face and in fact played pretty well in the playoff run and forced teams to actually defend him.
If you have ever been to a game, other than being amazed at the energy that KG brings to the floor, you will be shocked by the speed of Rajon Rondo. However its not just his quickness but his explosive first step. Was last night's triple double a coming out party? No way! The guy has been pretty consistent this year and last night might have finally put him on the national stage. Think that over for a minute. Can you name more than 5 point guards in the NBA that you would rather have on the Celtics? I'll give you Derek Rose, Chris Paul and Deron Williams. I know I am a musician but thats only three. Mike Bibby? Maybe. Nash, Kidd, A.I.? 4 years ago yes, but not now.
The scary thing about Rondo is that the shot is still being developed. He has yet to become the scoring threat, but on this team he doesn't need to be that guy. However he is doing a good job at shouldering the loss of Posey and down the stretch will be called upon to be a scorer. One stat that does pop out at your humble blogger is his rebounding. On a team with two great guys on the glass, Rondo is nearly averaging 5 boards a game.
Things are looking good for the Celtics at the point. They have Rondo wrapped up through 2010 and have a team option through 2011.
